Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - In a world increasingly dependent upon technology for information and procedures, a longing for human persons-once ubiquitous, now often hidden behind screens-grows deeper and more urgent with each passing day. This book argues that it is only through persons that we can approach truth, which transcends what can be computed in rational analysis. Drawing upon science, sacred scripture, philosophy and literature, it shows us how the hunger for such truth in our troubled world can be fed by Christ, the Bread of Life, the Truth in Person. Speaking to the growing truth-instinct of the young, it deconstructs the algorithmic view of creation in order to kneel before this Truth, witnessing to its emergence in personal dialogue among all persons, in nature seen poetically as a mother and above all in the truthful life fostered by friendship and fraternity, which culminates in sharing the blissful knowing and loving of the persons of the Holy Trinity.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - Written in the 1990s but only recently discovered, this memoir by one of Vatican II's liturgical experts analyzes the downward progression from the hopeful preconciliar Liturgical Movement to the postconciliar decay in Church and society caused primarily by 'horizontalizing' the worship of the Triune God. Archimandrite Boniface provides personal accounts of liturgical sabotage after the Council by an aggressive minority in the Consilium who pressured the bishops to approve their erroneous work. In his words: 'The problem lies not in the Council itself or its primary documents, but in . . . what the dissenters have prevented it from being.'Archimandrite Boniface summarizes the situation in the Western Church: 'We are witnessing, above all, a crisis of grace. We are in dire need of a renewed outpouring of the Holy Spirit . . . a renewed return to the gospel, especially to the whole Sermon on the Mount. . . . We need a renewed return to Holy Tradition . . . a return to the Council itself.' This book points to signs of hope in the Church, and offers thoughtful suggestions on how to reach the goal of true renewal.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - Esotericism for Everyone is the second in an exciting new series of interviews with prolific French religious philosopher and metaphysician Bruno Bérard, whose work Angelico Press introduced to anglophone readers in 2018 with the publication of A Metaphysics of the Christian Mystery: An Introduction to the Work of Jean Borella. The first volume in the current series, Metaphysics for Everyone, was published in 2024. Further volumes will include Theology for Everyone, Jean Borella for Everyone, and Wolfgang Smith for Everyone (the pivotal contemporary thinkers Jean Borella and Wolfgang Smith are also authors featured by Angelico).Esotericism has been with us for millennia. When the term was coined in the 19th century, all esoteric approaches-movements delving into the mysteries of life, the world, and God-were brought together under a single term. At that time the 'twin sisters' of esotericism and occultism underwent a kind of paroxysm, which until recently cast a shadow over the true meaning of esotericism. It was especially René Guénon (featured in this book) who in the early 20th century worked to distinguish these two. Over the last few decades, a great deal of academic work has been done on all forms of esotericism, from ancestral megalithism to modern philosophical gnosticism. But this historicist approach needs to be complemented by assessments and value judgments, and we need to know from what point of view these judgments are being made. Bruno Bérard's interlocutor, Aldo La Fata, whose intimacy with Catholicism is neither occult nor excessively overt, offers the immense advantage of the kind of point of view sought for here. We will forget history then-'historicist history' at any rate-as well as esotericism as such, and instead seek through these conversations to perceive the presence of the esoteric hidden within the world and in the human heart.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - Inspired by the writings of Russian Orthodox priest, theologian, and philosopher of religion Sergei Bulgakov, as well as Italian Catholic philosopher of history Augusto Del Noce's theory of the history of the twentieth century as the realization of the atheistic conclusions of nineteenth-century philosophy, Teokratia offers a study in the collapse, followed then by the apparently spontaneous regeneration, of the so-called 'theocratic principle in Russian culture.' This is the key both to what the author alleges is the primary ideational causation and fundamental religious meaning of the Russian Revolution, and to the nature and underlying rationale of the authoritarian regime that exists today in 'Putin's Russia.' The book serves simultaneously as a spiritual biography of Russia's last (now sainted) tsar, Nicholas II (1894-1917), exploring the theological sources of Nicholas's unwillingness, even inability, to grant Russia a constitution as a matter of faith and conscience-questioning as it does so the tensions in not only Bulgakov's political theology but also the meaning of the place of the basileus/emperor/tsar in Eastern Orthodox Christianity. Concluding that politics is, as it were, 'always already' an act of sacred representation, Teokratia argues that at stake in the Russian Revolution-and, indeed, in Russia's present-is not only different accounts of politics, but also, more fundamentally, different accounts of Christianity.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - Giving Myself Away is the autobiography of an American poet, Catholic school boy, spiritual seeker, metaphysical writer, social service worker, and political activist-an 'intellectual Forrest Gump' who found himself part of various significant events in American history, from the post-war, pre-counterculture era through the 'spiritual revolution' of the 1960's; the San Francisco poetry scene of those times; the U.S. peace movement of the 60's, the 80's and the 2010's; the New Age; the emergence of Islam as a cultural force in North America; and the attempt from the 80's to the early 2000's, by some serious seekers, to return to Tradition. It is at once a cultural history; a psychological analysis, individual and collective; a record of paranormal events; a meditation on how metaphysical principles work themselves out in human experience; a story of spiritual seeking through many faiths, including 35 years of Sufi practice; an intimate view of the cultures, religions, and folkways of both California and Kentucky; and the record of a period of unprecedented cultural, technical, spiritual, and environmental breakdown, not just for the United States, Islam, and the Catholic Church but for the whole world. This work can be seen as a kind of summing-up of the Baby Boom's relationship to Art, Religion, and Politics, illustrated by the author's meetings with remarkable and famous people in those fields, including Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Gary Snyder, Lew Welch, Yogi Bhajan, Rev. Gary Davis, Country Joe and the Fish, Peter Coyote, Chögyam Trungpa, Swami Mukhtananda, the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, Charles Bukowski, Jerry Brown, Huey Lewis, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Carlos Castaneda, Wendell Berry, Kathleen Raine, Jack Kornfield, Javad Nurbakhsh, Seyyed Hossein Nasr, and Huston Smith.…
