Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Near Fine+. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good ++. First (English). These 42 pages begin with a biographical sketch of the dissident writer Vincas Kudirka - born in 1858 in Lithuania. FOUR of the writer's short pieces follow. They are : `The Bell (varpas)', `Roziuke and Martynukas', `The Paper (bumajnyj) Officer' , and the title piece. This later anthropomorphizes a bridge across the Sesupe River. All pieces have a leftist political / philosophical approach - note for example, the second piece where Martynukas is asked to get some secret papers to a man in Panendriai. There are consequences to this clandestine action. Read about Baron Rylosujev, Maryte, a back-fence, Kareiviskiai, and the dog-path. Cond : Boards are light green with gilt lettering on face and spine. D.J. is vellum with no lettering. End-papers are white. The only graphic is a Kudirka portrait (b/w drawing) by Krasauskas. Curious paper `scar' on page 10. No names, marks, tears, bumps, nor stains. CLEAN, tight , and bright. VERY collectible !! Quote (p. 20) " Luckily the master was not at home, and the steward merel;y cuffed him on the ear and told him to lead out the horses to the night pasture. Nothing else happened to him. Martynukas was now completely at ease. Only the loss of his . .". B/W Drawing (frontispiece) (ilustrador).…
