First printing, no others stated. Hermann Zapf (1918 2015) was a German typeface designer and calligrapher who lived in Darmstadt, Germany. His career in type design spanned the three most recent stages of printing: hot metal composition, phototypesetting (also called cold type), and digital typesetting. His two most famous typefaces, Palatino and Optima, were designed in 1948 and 1952, respectively. Most items ship with tracking numbers and(generally over $15.00) jacket protectors if applicable. Clean recycled packing material will be used when possible.

Plates exhibit types designed by Hermann Zapf with the assistance of his wife, Gudrun Zapf-von Hesse, for the Scott Paper Company, Printing and Converting Papers Division. Enclosed in paper portfolio embossed with title and raptor design. Portfolio rather worn at edges, and stained on upper wrap at lower left corner. Contents thumbed but generally very good. Each plate features a quotation about Freedom (by Hegel, Kant, Maugham, The Book of Common Prayer, Wendell Willkie, and Salvador de Madariaga, expressed in Zapf's exemplary letterforms. There is a paragraph of explanation on an overlay for each plate (one overlay is missing, however).
