Paperback. Condición: New. A groundbreaking guide to flower flies in North America This is the first comprehensive field guide to the flower flies (also known as hover flies) of northeastern North America. Flower flies are, along with bees, our most important pollinators. This handy and informative guide teaches you how. With more than 3,000 color photographs and 400 maps, this guide covers all 416 species of flower flies that occur north of Tennessee and east of the Dakotas, including the high Arctic and Greenland. Each species account provides information on size, identification, abundance, and flight time, along with notes on behavior, classification, hybridization, habitats, larvae, and more.Summarizing the current scientific understanding of our flower fly fauna, this is an indispensable resource for anyone, amateur naturalist or scientist, interested in discovering the beauty of these insects.· 3000+ color photos (field and museum shots)· Multiple images per species, with arrows highlighting key field marks· Grayscale images showing the actual size of the insect· Range maps for each species· Information on size, identification features, abundance, flight times, and more.…

Trade Paperback. Condición: Fine. First. Brand new paperback, 255 pages. Includes stories by Franklin Marsh, Andrew Darlington, Stephen Bacon, Gary Fry, Benedict J. Jones, Kate Farrell, Charles Black, David A. Sutton, Walter Gascoigne, Mark Patrick Lynch, Adrian Cole, Shaun Avery, Jay Eales, Craig Herbertson, Tim Major, M. J. Wesolowski, and David Turnbull. "Coined in the 1950s, Kitchen Sink described British films, plays and novels frequently set in the North of England, which showed working class life in a gritty, no-nonsense, "warts and all" style, sometimes referred to as social realism. It became popular after the playwright John Osborne wrote Look Back In Anger, simultaneously helping to create the Angry Young Men movement. Films included Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, The Entertainer, A Taste of Honey, The L-Shaped Room and The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner. TV dramas included Coronation Street and East Enders. In recent years TV dramas that could rightly be described as kitchen sink gothic include Being Human, with its cast of working class vampires, werewolves and ghosts, and the zombie drama In the Flesh, with its northern working class, down to earth setting. In this anthology you will find stories that cover a wide range of Kitchen Sink Gothic, from the darkly humorous to the weirdly strange and occasionally horrific." Size: 9" x 6". Cover: Joe Young (ilustrador). Book.…

First edition. 30pp. Andrew John Young (1885-1971), was a Scottish writer, poet and clergyman, although recognition of his poetry was slow to develop. The Royal Society of Literature awarded him the Benson Medal in 1939 and gave him an honorary fellowship in 1951. In that year too he received an honorary degree from the University of Edinburgh and, in the following year, was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry. The Death of Eli is his third collection of poems. The book is bound in the original cream card covers with red titling on the spine. The book is in good to very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling on the covers and a stain near the bottom spine corner of the front cover. The edges of the covers are creased and nicked and there is a little damage and loss to the spine ends. The contents are secure and clean with no inscription.…

Añadir al carritoHardcover. 1st edition. [5], 88 p.; 22 cm. A prose-poem, browsing by allusion rather than direct exposition through the synoptic gospels `Returning to the city next morning, the disciples saw a figtree he had cursed the day before; he had been hungry and it had offered him no fruit; now it was withered to its roots. But it had not been due to produce figs till June and it was still April! St Luke, though he read it in St Mark, omits this story of his unkindness to a helpless tree, while in St Matthew there is a different version. Clearly a parable has given rise to a miracle, the parable of the Barren Figtree. In the Old Testament Israel is represented as a figtree: "I saw your fathers as the first fruit on a figtree in her first season." He kept the picture in the parable, a figtree planted in a vineyard as an object of special cult and care. Yet it was bearing no fruit. The landlord ordered the vine-dresser to cut it down, but he pleaded that it might be spared for another season in the hope that it might yet produce fruit, and that was granted. This parable, in which he spoke of his mission as a figtree, he had told in a synagogue in Galilee. If he remembered it, he would reflect that months had passed without the fig tree showing much promise of fruit. But there was still hope. The next two days in Jerusalem, his last on earth, might be the figtree's June.' (p. 62, with references to Mk 11.12f, Mt 21.19f, Hos 9.10, Lk 13.6f given in the margin) VG orig. blue cloth in vg peach dj. engravings by T. R. Williams (ilustrador).…
