PROVENANCE BACKGROUND: Gerald Michael Orlando Bridgeman, 6th Earl of Bradford (1911-1981), pre-eminent British landowner and a leading figure in the mid-20th-century movement for sustainable estate management. A decorated Captain in the Royal Artillery during the Second World War, he inherited the 14,500-acre family seat at Weston Park, Shropshire, in 1957. Rather than remaining a traditional landlord, Bradford explored the innovative use of land, serving as President of the Country Landowners Association and eventually receiving the prestigious Bledisloe Gold Medal for his outstanding contributions to British agriculture and forestry.
