Sehr seltene Dissertation des bedeutenden Hamburger Botanikers Max Carl Ludewig Wittmack (1839-1929). - "Die herrliche, 25 Fuss hohe Musa Ensete, welche in den letzten Jahren das Palmenhaus des Berliner botanischen Gartens zierte und sich von allen übrigen Bananen durch die Pracht und Grossartigkeit ihrer Belaubung auszeichnete, wurde mir nach ihrem Absterben, im April 1866, von Prof. Al. Braun freundlichst zur Untersuchung übergeben und fühle mich gedrungen, hierfür meinem hochverehrten Lehrer, der mich ausserdem noch in der mannigfaltigsten Weise mit Rath und That unterstützte, meine innigste Erkenntlichkeit auszusprechen." Wittmack war stellvertretender Preisrichter bei der Weltausstellung 1867 und Gründer und erster Direktor des Landwirtschaftlichen Museums in Berlin. 1874 habilitierte er sich an der Universität Berlin. Von 1880 bis 1913 war er Professor für Botanik an der Landwirtschaftlichen Hochschule in Berlin, von 1880 bis 1920 Professor für Botanik an der Tierärztlichen Hochschule in Berlin.
