Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Near Fine dj. First Edition. [slight bumping to lower corners, faint foxing to top edge of text block; the jacket shows just a touch of wear at several corners, very light spotting along spine]. (B&W photographs) INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the verso of the title page: "To ____: / nice to talk / to you the other day. / Now you can read / all about what I did / when I visited the / old Hollywood. / Emery." Memoir by a long-time part-time journalist at the Charlotte (NC) News, who in his capacity as "a motion picture reviewer and columnist made more than 50 trips to Hollywood to interview the celebrities and watch them at work." The author's forays to the movie capital began in 1939 and continued into the 1970s; the book is quite anecdotal (most chapters are no more than 3-4 pages long), and seems about evenly divided between goings-on in Hollywood and back home in Charlotte (although almost all the photos are shots of the author with various movie stars). Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Near Fine. BOOK DESCRIPTION: 8vo, xx, 344, (75) pgs. Color frontis photograph. New Edition with Additional Illustrations (76 plates) from photographs by the author and his brother. With author's inscription on a front blank preliminary, dated March 1953. Interior is clean and tight. With clear mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The Kolb Brothers, Ellsworth and Emory, established themselves as both photographers and adventurers at the Grand Canyon in 1902. Their photographs of visitors and lesser-known areas of the canyon supported their studio for many decades. They rafted the river, explored its canyons and out of the way places, taking photographs all the time. While Ellsworth retired to Los Angeles and died in 1960, Emory continued to live and sell photographs and tourist books until his death in 1976. This book is signed in March 1953 at Grand Canyon Arizona. All the copies of this book I've ever seen have been signed. I think that any unsigned copy would be rare in comparison. Nevertheless, a very nice copy of the new edition with the additional photographs; and a terrific tale of adventure.…

Añadir al carritoSecond edition, approx. fourteenth printing (per publisher's stated sequence upon copyright page) INSCRIBED, DATED, AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. Collates as i-xxii, 1-344, [unpaged b/w plate section]. Hardcover: H 21.5cm x L 16.25cm. No dust jacket (i.e. lacking). Blue cloth rubbed; front board decorated with color pictorial paste-on which has small loss at its bottom right; some scuffing and bumping at spine ends and board corners; spine and front board lettering somewhat dulled but still easily legible. Slight foxing/toning to text block edges. Four-line ink inscription "Yours very truly | Ellsworth and Emery Kolb. |December 25 - 1946 | Grand Canyon, Arizona" on front free endpaper verso - however there is no change in the cursive handwriting between the brothers' respective names so there was only one signer rather than two (presumably Ellsworth signed for both). Occasional light foxing to interior leaves with several leaves having creased/nicked fore-edge corners. Binding has a few stress points at quires but all still reasonably firm.…
