Hurst & Co. "Arlington Edition" (as stated upon front board and spine). Paged as [6], 1-110, 1-39, [1], [6] pages. Hardcover: H 18.75cm x L 12.75cm. Blue cloth rubbed; spine ends and board corners bumped with some wear to cloth at latter; staining to rear board; slender 1.3cm surface chip to cloth at upper rear joint; flaking to spine's silver title lettering and bars but all still legible. Usual strong toning to edges and interior leaves typical of Hurst publications; varied moisture staining mostly at margins of leaves as well; slender chipping at lower gutter margin of first three leaves (ffep, title, Preface) and again at upper center gutter of rfep and preceding ad leaf; 3cm tear to surface paper at head of rear hinge/gutter. Binding stressed between pages 42-43 with several other lesser stress point but overall still holding. John Strange Winter (Henrietta Eliza Vaughan Stannard) story "Bootles' Children" (spine and title page have incorrect title Bootle's Children" but page 1 has correct "Bootles' Children") on pages 1-110 followed by "A Tale of Three Lions" on pages 1-39 of which authorship in uncredited but is a short story by novelist H. Rider Haggard; book concludes with six page advertising section. Only a good copy at best but reflects standard condition of most Hurst & Company publications as they fulfilled their market niche as a cheap pulp printer of pirated books by American and European authors. No publication date provided (also standard practice for Hurst) but probably early 1890s for "Bootles' Children" was first published in London in 1888.
