128pp, bibliography, 18 x 11.3cm. Pages evenly browned throughout, endpapers separated from staple binding, original wrappers browned and worn, tail of spine chipped with little loss, overall a fair copy. "China's four years' resistance to aggression has surprised friends and enemies alike, and Japan's alliance with the Axis Powers makes China now a potential ally of the democracies. This book looks into the values of Chinese civilization as it has persisted through five thousand years among four hundred million people. It finds that the New China that is being built up in the West follows a pattern of life that is partly old and partly new. If China can emerge from this struggle a united democratic nation based on ideals not unlike those of the Anglo-Saxon people, there is hope of a world order of freedom and peace." Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. Galbraith was an English missionary and teacher who spent many years in China and spoke Chinese fluently. The book concerns her experiences in China during the revolutionary period, particularly the upheavals surrounding the Chinese Nationalist and Communist movements of the 1920s. She was actually in China during the disturbances of 1927 and was subsequently expelled from central China. It is consequently more than a conventional travel book: it provides a female missionary's first-hand observations of Chinese society and the political revolution of the 1920s. Fine copy in a protected and unmarked unclipped dustjacket.…
