Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. 315 pages. Published the same year in the United States by Dick & Fitzgerald as "Leaves from the Note-Book of a New York Detective." In the original yellowback binding, which has been recased with new endpapers and portions of the spine were remade. No half-title (if there was one). Previous owner's signature in pencil on title page (a man who was ordered to court for insolvency in Dublin in 1859, and who wrote a clever bit of verse on the facing page about borrowing books). A collection of 22 stories presented as fact, but regarded now as fiction, and as such they pre-date Sherlock Holmes. As in the Holmes stories, the adventures of the detective, James Brampton, are "edited" by a medical doctor of his acquaintance. The publisher of this edition was the husband of Mary E. Braddon, author of the great Victorian novel, "Lady Audley's Secret." Size: Small 8vo.
