Cloth. Condición: Very Good. A lovely collection of heroic tales for children from W.E. Johns and fellow writing air veterans, inspired by their own service during the First World War. A charming collection of tales about heroic fighter aces, written by air veterans W.E. Johns, George E. Rochester and William Hansboro. Published in 1938, only two years before the Battle of Britain. In the publisher's original pictorial paper boards with a red cloth spine. A frontispiece of The Gloster 'Gauntlet' fighter plane by Stanley Orton Bradshaw, as well as three other colour illustrations, four monochrome illustrations, and numerous woodcut illustrations by both Bradshaw and Leigh. Collated complete. Most famous for creating fighter hero 'Biggles', W.E. Johns has teamed up with Rochester and Hansboro to offer more daring adventures inspired by their service during the First World War. Alongside Leigh and Bradswhaw's illustrations, the tales are brilliant for portraying the brave actions of aces, as well as the life-threatening challenges they had to endure. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth. Externally, smart, with the occasional minor scratch to boards. Marginal fading to the spine. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine, with signs of shelf wear to extremities. End papers are clean, with rare spot to extremities. Internally, generally firmly bound, with signs of wear to hinge between leaf p.76 and 'Reconnaisance' plate. Pages are bright and clean, with occasional browning to top of leaves. Very Good. Howard Leigh and Stanley Orton Bradshaw (ilustrador). book.
