Alberta's first Social Credit premier, William Aberhart, "Bible Bill" to his fans, produced many outpourings and replies to his critics. He was still fighting against private banks when he died in 1943. Despite claims that the federal government had sole control of banking, he got around that by establishing the Alberta Treasury Branches. They are today the only government-owned banking system in Canada/U.S. that serves the public.…

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a selection of Bible readings intended for use in schools across Alberta and Ontario. Compiled in the 1930s, the readings were chosen specifically to align with the educational guidelines of the time. The text is divided into four sections, corresponding to the different grade levels in the school system. Each section offers a carefully curated list of passages, categorized by theme. Some themes include stories of helping one another, reasons for thanking God, the coming of Jesus, and the lives of biblical heroes. The book also provides readings suitable for special occasions like Armistice Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas. The authorââ â¢s aim is to provide teachers with a resource for incorporating scriptural readings into the daily routines of their classrooms, reflecting the strong emphasis on religious instruction prevalent in education at the time. The book offers a fascinating glimpse into the intersection of faith and education in Canada during the early twentieth century.
