The very scarce first edition of The Byways of Montgomeryshire, an exploration of the historic Welsh county, written and signed by English historian and philanthropist John Bancroft Willans. In the publisher's green decorative original cloth, with a frontispiece and all seventy-nine other in-text and full-page photographs by Willans. Collated complete. Willans shares insights, stories and his experiences across the picturesque county in the heart of Wales, including on the Dovey and Camlad Valleys. Willans was the Governor of the Natioanl Library and National Museums. He made significant donations to the University College of Wales during his lifetime, today Aberystwyth University, and was an early photographer of Powys. In the publisher's green decorative original cloth. Externally, smart, with minimal marks to boards. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. Offsetting to free end papers and spots to pastedowns. Willian's signed inscription to the front free end paper. Internally, firmly bound.
