Plate 60 from the supplemental volume of the work "Medicinal-pflanzen" (medical plants) by h. a. köhler, published in 3 volumes (ground work in two volumes and one supplemental volume) between 1887-1898 by f. e. köhler, a publisher based in the german town of gera (thuringia) and accidentally bearing the same family name as the author. the remarkable feature of the publication is its nearly 300 finely detailed illustrations, expertly drawn by the artists wilhelm walter müller and carl friedrich schmidt, which were skillfully rendered by k. günther in chromolithography. the work ranks among the highest in its field; the bibliographers sitwell & blunt considered it the best pharmaceutical herbal from the perspective of botanical accuracy. it is still referred to today for its exemplary illustrations as well as for its detailed descriptions of the pharmaceutical and general botanical characteristics of the plants and their use in medicine. if nothing else is stated here our offers include the descriptive pages (a few of the descriptions refer to more than just one plate though and can therefore of course only be added to one of the plates).
