Peter Still was kidnapped from his home in New Jersey as a child, was a slave for more than 40 years in Kentucky and Alabama and was finally liberated due to the generosity of two Jewish merchants who purchased him and them permitted him to buy his freedom with the work he did. After he obtained his own freedom, Still did not rest until he was able to purchase his wife and children also.
