Gerard was credited with killing 25 lions in 11 years around Algeria. He also nurtured a lion cub and raised it. He also describes panthers, jackals, hyenas, stags, antelope, hawking, wild boar etc. Whitehead was a New York lawyer and avid hunter, too, who authored CAMP-FIRES OF THE EVERGLADES.
