Daniel Whistler Ilustrador. This is a lovely copy of The Riddle of the Sands, the 1902 spy novel written by the British writer Erskine Childers. It is one of the first spy novels ever written and had an enormous impact on the genre, on writers of the day, and on Winston Churchill who, when WWI broke out, made sure that Childers was in the Royal Navy. It is known for its nautical detail and suspense, and as a gripping thriller that raised alarm about Germany's military ambitions before World War I. This copy was published by The Folio Society, so it's a beautiful book. Bright red covers with a black and silver design, best-quality paper, and lots of maps and illustrations by Daniel Whistler. It is contained in a brown slipcase. The only flaw to the book is that the spine is less red than the book, just from sitting on the shelf. It is otherwise in perfect condition.
