Añadir al carritoSoftcover. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. Bedside Book BB 963. Erotic, pulp novel. East Village, New York City, Beatnik setting. Attractive painted cover art. Bright and well-preserved. Some small nicks and creases to corners. Lomg crease and (closed) tear to foot of back cover. Retail price sticker over publisher's price.… Cover copy: VILLAGE MADNESS seized her as soon as she caught the first whiff of the gin-soaked, anything-goes atmosphere of the dive where she was to taste both the sweetness of success and the bitterness of degradation. Unable to resist the mink coat temptations one man offered and the searing desires another aroused, she plunged deeply into the frenzied whirl of liquor, lovemaking and intrigue that were soon to bring her to her dimpled knees crying for help. First paragraph(s): THE FIRST COLD WIND of New York City's winter was driving down Fifth Avenue as Betsy Jory crossed the street to cut through Washington Square Park. The famous Greenwich Village she'd heard about all her life looked bare and cold, not gay and glamorous. There wasn't a beatnik in sight, but just a pair of winos and a man with a poodle on a leash hurrying through the park as quickly as she was. Paperback Original. Size: 4.25" x 7". 187 pages. Text unmarked. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Slight age-toning to page edges. Slight shelf-wear and bumping to corners. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 12 oz. Añadir al carritoSoft Cover. Condición: Very Good Plus. First Edition. Soft cover, 8vo in publisher's stapled wraps. COLLATION: 281-327 [1] pp. CONDITION: Very Good Plus. Some light creases to corners of pages. Light wear to covers. ** Special Arthur Machen edition of the quarterly magazine, the Aylesford Review. Contains a biography of Machen b…y Wesley D, Sweetser, published in 1964 as the preface to an Arthur Machen bibliography. In this essay, we learn of Machen's upbringing in rural Wales, and his wanderings in the hills of Gwent, which were to fire his imagination with images of pagan rites and symbols. From there, Machen went to London to "seek his fortune", and yet found himself in yet another labyrinth of paths, only now the streets of London saw his daily wandering walks, fueled by green tea and a literary thirst. Machen's autobiographies, "Far Off Things" (1922), "Things Near and Far" (1923), and "The London Adventure" (1924) are among the best of his works. ** Other essays in this issue of the Aylesford Review are: "His Ideas and Beliefs" by Brocard Sewell, "Men About Machen" by Adrian Goldstone, "Memories of Machen" by C.A. and Anthony Lejeune, and "Machen in Fleet Street" by Maurice Spurway. ** The Aylesford Review was established by the Carmelite priest Brocard Sewell, born Michael Seymour Gerveys Sewell (1912-2000). Sewell used the Aylesford Review to promote a number of lesser-known writers, such as Arthur Machen, Elizabeth Myers, Henry Williamson, John Gray, Theodore Francis Powys and Montague Summers. Book.
