Der Titel coupes bezieht sich auf die raumgreifende Installation coupes, die als Referenz zur Skulptur Cube von Alberto Giacometti von 1934 und zu Albrecht Dürer s Polyeder im Kupferstich Melencolia I von 1514 programmatisch die Ideale der Moderne und deren Formenvokabular untersucht. Weitere Werkkomplexe wie philharmonie befassen sich mit der pentagonalen und hexagonalen Form als Synonym der Moderne. Neben der visuellen Untersuchung bestehender urbaner Strukturen mit Hilfe des Fotoapparates setzt sich Weis vor allem in Form von physischen Eingriffen mit Utopie und Dystopie moderner Architektur auseinander. Sein Augenmerk gilt dabei vor allem der Oberfläche als Grenze und Übergang zwischen Innen und Außen, Draußen und Drinnen, dem Privaten und dem Öffentlichen. Mit Hilfe von Spiegeln, Aluminiumplatten, Raster- und Farbfolien, Lochblechen und Neonröhren schafft Weis komplexe Strukturen, die durch Faltungen, Reflexionen und Spiegelungen Oberflächen verdoppeln, verstärken oder optisch negieren.
