Full-Leather. Condición: Very Good. 5th or later Edition. Contemporary full leather binding. The title panel on the panel has bright gilt lettering and the gilt decorations on the spine are also bright. The spine has some slight edge wear and there is light rubbing to the corners and edges of the boards which are rather bowed. B…rowning to the page edges with some dark spotting to the top edges. There is some spotting at the front and back of the book and some browning to the pages which are otherwise generally unmarked.

Much scarcer than the twin volume on Rome. Not dated but possibly the 1860s. Good condition for age. No highlighting or other notes. Engravings and the fold-out also in good condition. Book has been rebound, with title and edition number in gilt lettering (see image 2).

He died very suddenly at a young age and this volume was put together in his memory by the contributors of his periodicals. It includes a breif biography of Aitken and ove…r 30 liteary pieces. The contributors include: C. Torrop, G.P.R. James, William Tennet, W. M. Hetherington, W.C. Taylor, John Malcolm, Henry Inglis, George Moir, James Gardner, Thomas Rosecoe, Robert Chambers, John Macray, Henry Stebbing, William Wilson, John M'Diarmid, Thomas Aitkinson, and Henry G. Bell. Very good in black leather boards with gilt title to spine. Raised bands to spine and bllind stamped rules to boards and spine. There is a two inch crack to fhe front hinge, rubbing to the boards, and wear to the corners and edges. The endpages are purple with a few small dampstains. There are a few small spots of foxing throughout, but overall the interior is clean. Antiquated ownership signature of Ellen Nicole Liverpool to front free endpage. Full edges gilt. A nice 19th century collection of poetry and short stories. 444 pages.
