Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is an extensive and insightful study of sweet cherry pollination. At the start of the 20th century, cherry farming in California faced significant challenges with unexpected crop failures. This prompted the author to launch a thorough investigation into pollination requirements of popular cherry varieties in various regions of the state. Through controlled pollination experiments and detailed observations, the author discovered that almost all sweet cherry varieties grown in California exhibited self-sterility. Additionally, the study revealed instances of inter-sterility between specific varieties, highlighting the need for compatible pairings to ensure successful fruit set. The author meticulously documents the pollination requirements of each variety, offering practical recommendations for inter-planting compatible varieties to maximize productivity. This book not only provides essential information for cherry farmers but also contributes valuable insights into the complexities of plant reproduction and the importance of cross-pollination in fruit production. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Dust Jacket. Allan, William; Roberts, David; Warren, Henry; Aubrey, C.E.; Harvey, William; Jonesm Owne, (Borders & Vignettes) Ilustrador. Hard cover, with embossed, gilt detail and title to front board, and gilt detail to (tanned) spine. Remnant & Edmonds was a prominent 19th-century British bookbinding partnership, based in London, renowned for their "relievo" binding during the period 1846-1862, using a powerful embossing press to create the deep reliefs on leather, they were considered pioneers in Victorian cloth bindings, including intricate blind-stamped designs. Their discrete stamp in adhered to the foot of the rear pastedown. This volume is from the collection of Ian Angus, former librarian at King's College, London, and deputy librarian at University College, London, ownership pencilled to FEP, below a previous owner's penned name. General shelf and handling wear, including rubbing, fading and wear to boards, board edges and bumped corners, and tanning to spine. Pageblock head is gilded, tanning and foxing to face and foot, this leading into initial pages, the final few pages, to page edges and occasionally to the content. Light watermark noted to leading edge of the pageblock, this does not affect the text within, or distract from the exquisite decorations and borders surrounding this; very much on the edge of the leaf. Minor foxing to the main body of the content. Within, the leaves are firmly bound, and the illustrations and coloured embellisments are in beautiful condition; several have 'gilt' detail present, all colours vibrant and true. A fine volume for the age. Please contain us if additional images are required. CN.

Añadir al carritoCondición: Very Good. Mining document providing a quarterly assessment of the mines in White Pine County. Dated to March 1870, the beginning of the gold and silver mining rushes in eastern Nevada. Document measures 27 ¼" x 15" when unfolded. Five small sheets are glued together with the top and bottom sections (about 3" each) printed, and the majority of information in manuscript. Docketed in manuscript. Signed and dated by the county auditor Warren J. Lockhart. A couple ½" or less closed tears along folds and minor creasing, else very good. This document contains 57 mine entries with number of tons of ore extracted, value per ton, dollar amount per ton deducted by law, total value, and amount of tax. This exciting quarterly assessment was written up just after the silver strike in Hamilton in the White Pine district. The amount of ore taken is quite impressive and some of the mines are of note. For that quarter alone, Aurora Consolidated produced $95,734; Consoliadated Chloride Flat $59,762; Eberhardt $34,011; Aurora Consolidated $33,022; and Original Hidden Treasure $27,334. An important document displaying the large-scale mining taking place in eastern Nevada. ; 27 ¼" x 15".
