This may have been done by the owner. No. 8 Sermon's on the Card Hugh Latimer pp192 No. 6 Childe Harold's Pilgrimage Lord Byron pp192 No. 5 The Complete Angler Isaac Walton pp192 Cassell's National Library was a weekly series issued by Cassell & Company of London, comprising English literature edited by Henry Morley. From 1886 to 1889 it issued 209 weekly volumes. These were sold for 3d. in paper covers and 6d. in cloth covers. The paper editions were among the earliest paperbound books in the history of book publishing, and are examples of the "literature for millions" publications begun early in the 19th century. The book is half Leather bound in Red with red cloth boards and marbled edge to text block. Three embossed author names to spine. Spine has five raised bands with gilt decoration. Bumped corners and two very tiny white marks next to spine ( 2mm each). The front pasted down end paper has two stickers (1) Dr. J M MacDonald (2) P McLaurin Cartside case C. Interestingly, P. McLaurin was the owner of Smith and McLaurin, paper manufacturers in Johnstone, Renfrewshire and he lived in Cartside House. The paper mill is still there but the house was demolished in 1931 for a housing estate.
