Buck Walton came to Austin, Texas in 1835 and died in 1915. He was an esteemed and successful Texas lawyer and he wrote his memoirs in 1914. He wrote very little of his law career, most of this book consists of his service the Confederate Army. He enlisted on March 2, 1862 in Company B, 21st Texas Calvary (also known as the First Lancers) as a private. He spent most of the war scouting Union troops and positions in Louisiana and Arkansas. He was good at scouting and ambushing Federals and was promoted all the way to Major. Walton originally wrote in pencil on legal paper. The manuscript ended up with his Grand-daughter who gave it to the Austin Public Library in 1965 which professionally reviewed the manuscript and had 1,000 copies of the book printed. A list of sponsors of the project is laid into the book. Book is clean and bright, no previous owner marks. Dust jacket is clean and bright with only minor wear. Dust jacket now protected in Mylar.
