With the acquisition in recent years of multiple Egyptological libraries (those of Prof. Herman te Velde; Prof. Mathieu Heerma van Voss, Prof. Baudouin van de Walle; Prof. Michel Malaise; Prof. Herman De Meulenaere; Egyptologist Jacobus Visser, and former Trustee of the Egypt Exploration Society, Stewart Dale White), we now hold several thousands of rare offprint monographs which were collected over many years by these scholars. Very limited in number when originally issued and fragile by nature, most are by now practically extinct and the scarce survivors are much sought after. We took upon ourselves to collate, catalogue, and identify each item in accordance with Beinlich-Seeber or Annual Egyptological Bibliography, in the hope that this collection will prove useful for scholars and collectors alike. First edition of this early work by the Nobel Prize-winning economist. Octavo, original cloth. Boldly signed by Milton Friedman on the half-title page. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket, name to the front free endpaper. Scarce in the original dust jacket and signed by Friedman "An important activity at [the Statistical Research Group] was consulting with the military on procedures for inspecting batches of material submitted by suppliers to determine whether they met specification and should be accepted or rejected. Such acceptance inspection, and the closely related problem of inspecting samples of items coming off the production line to control quality, are of long standing, and standard procedures had been developed well before the war. The contributions of SRG were of two kinds. The first was simply to advise the military about relevant procedures and to assist in drafting manuals for various groups to use. The second was to improve the existing procedures. The development of sequential analysis and its application to specific problems was the main contribution of this kind. These activities led to a request that SRG prepare an inspection manual for the Navy. Because of the obvious peacetime importance of sampling inspection, the work we had done during the war was published after the war in a volume entitled Sampling Inspection: Principles, Procedures, and Tables for Single, Double, and Sequential Sampling in Acceptance Inspection and Quality Control Based on Percent Defective.".…
