Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: As New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: As New. 1st Edition. As new condition polished black cloth boards with gold spine lettering contained in an as new condition photographic dust jacket. Includes List of Illustrations; Preface; Foreword; Prologue and About the Author. Signed by the author, Kurt L. Wallach,…with black pen on the first free blank front endpaper. "A touching tale of family love over many generations, and a fond tribute to a father of great courage and foresight. Remembering Mark speaks plainly of simple truths worth repeating. Kurt Wallach offers not only a remembrance but a reminder of the unparalleled hardships brought on by Hitler's rise to power, and of the strength required to triumph over Nazi oppression." - Dan Rather, CBS Evening News. "A wonderful read about something that is very close to me. A relationship between father and family." - Burt Reynolds. "A wonderful and compelling story of the strength of the human spirit." - Connie Mack, United States Senator, State of Florida. "You will certainly remember Mark - after reading Kurth Wallach's riveting story of his father's brave odyssey. A brave journey, taking us from Middle Europe to the Middle West, through leather, ice cream, herring, and cheese to a real estate empire. A devoted father, and a brave fighter against fascism. You'll be well rewarded by reading Remembering Mark." - Eli Wallach. "What could be more powerful than a son's love for a father. In this instance the product of that love is a glorious tribute to a man worth noting." - Ed Asner. "Without this insightful and remarkable account of the life and times of Mark Wallach, the world would never know about this man's struggle to overcome adversity and hardship in the wake of the darkest period in human history. Kurt Wallach should be commended for this truly outstanding recount of his father's life in Remembering Mark." - The Honorable George E. Pataki, Governor of the State of New York. Dedication reads: "This book is dedicated to the memory of the entire family of Mark Wallach who sacrificed their lives to Adolph Hitler's Nazis, merely in payment for the sin of being of the Jewish faith." "Remembering Mark" is an inspiring, at times seemingly incredible, story of a man with vision and accurate foresight. The man "Mark," propelled through a world of turmoil which was recognized by only an handful as it headed toward disaster, calamity and tragedy. It traces his family back over the generations and introduces a man born to achieve but never to be recognized nor appreciated in his lifetime, for his zeal, devotion and dedication to the well-being of his family. Mark recognized the "Hitler Era" before, in fact, it became the Hitler Era. As a Nazi basher in the early days to the prognosticator of doom, thought by many to be crazy for his radical views, he saw the unseen. As an extremely comfortable and well-off young man with a wife and three small children living in Germany in the early 1930's, he gave up everything on a whim, leaving a fortune behind and fleeing to Holland to live in a strange nation with an insecure future. He had what it took to overcome the language barrier and the customs so different. Once again, he rose from point zero to high stature, financial well being and security only to see the vicissitudes of life again call for a repetition of the difficult past. He recognized Hitler's Germany for what it would become and sought to flee long before most saw the unfolding fatal tragedy which was around the corner. Once again, from the comfortable nest, he took his fledglings and brought them to the far off shore of the United States during the Great Depression, where he face an uncertain future, potential financial disaster and fear, only to rise above it all, succeed, adjust, raise his family and find security and happiness. He was a rare individual among the most uncommon, a man not recognized, yet deserving of greatness." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps. Signed by Author(s).

As new condition maroon linen boards with gold spine lettering contained in a fine condition photographic dust jacket. Includes Author Dedication; List of Illustrations; Preface and About the Author. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs. Signed…and inscribed by the author, Kurt L. Wallach, with black pen at the center of the blank first free front endpaper. "Kurt Wallach brings with him a varied background not often found, ranging across a spectrum of a most manifold and wide range of callings. As a younster, he suffered the early terrors of the Nazis in Germany, and escaped with life and limb as he and his family fled the Nazi horrors, crossing the border into Holland to save their lives. Four years in exile, education in a Dutch school and a free life followed in Holland, only to be interrupted by Nazi conquests. Once again, a quick run for life, this time to America, arriving at the height of the depression, where he and his family enjoyed a good life. During WWII he enlisted in the Navy and volunteered for underwater demolition in the amphibious forces, serving as a "frogman" for one and a half years overseas. After the war he earned bachelors and masters degrees in hearing and speech pathology from Western Reserve University. He moved to Florida with his wife and children in 1956. Wallach spent several years as a tennis professional and then built the Miami Racquet Club. It was at this time that he did his first published writing, producing and having published a humorus tennis book called Tennis Is a Funny Racquet, a book that became quite successful. At the same time he wrote a weekly newspaper column, "Tennis Technique" that was syndicated in numerous magazines and newspapers throughout Florida for thirty years. Kurt Wallach later reentered the real estate industry via construction and for twenty-five years was the owner of twelve manufactured housing communibuildings and fifteen major medical plazas. His company, Kurtell Growth Industries, a real estate investment trust with assets of nine figures became one of the largest of its kind on the Treasure Coast of Florida. He remians as president and chairman of the board. In the late 1990s Mr. Wallach authored the book, Remembering Mark, that told the story of his father, a brave and truly marvelous man who saved the lives of many as he took his family to safety from certain death. He brought his wife's family and strangers out of Austria, taking them out of the claws of the Hitler regime. The book, Remembering Mark, was a great success. Mr. Wallach is a founder of, and one of the major financial contributors to, the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. As a major stockholder of Citrus Bank, Mr. Wallach also served on its board of directors. He has been chairman of several major committees including the chairmanship of the important executive loan committiee. He has donated fifty-five acres of land the the State of Florida for the protection of the environment. He is a sponsor of the Indian River Humane Society, a benefactor of the Treasure Coast Opera Society and serves on its board of directors. Mr. Wallach also served on the board of directors off the Vero Heritage Center. He is the father of two daughters, Laurie Mitchell and Penny Spark, and has a twenty-five-year-old son, Mark, who was born two months after his grandfather's death in 1981. Four grandchildren will carry on the Wallach legacy. Eighty-one years old at this writing (2008), he remains active in business and frequently travels domestically and overseas. Presently he lectures part time at Florida Atlantic University." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps. Tabby House (book design); Tornatore, Carol (jacket design) (ilustrador).
