Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the doctrines of the Remonstrant movement, a 17th-century offshoot of Dutch Calvinism, and compares them to the teachings of other Protestant denominations. Through extensive analysis of the Remonstrant Apologia and other primary sources, the author highlights the Remonstrants' unique beliefs, including their rejection of absolute divine predestination and embrace of universal atonement. The analysis reveals a significant divergence in theological perspectives between the Remonstrants and other Protestant groups, which led to heated debates and ultimately the Synod of Dort, where the Remonstrants' doctrines were officially condemned. The book provides a valuable resource for understanding the history of Protestant thought and the evolution of Christian doctrine during this period. The insights it offers into the dynamics of theological controversies and the challenges of maintaining unity within the Protestant movement continue to resonate with scholars of religion and history today. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Scarce and desirable Elzevir text by Walaeus a Dutch Calvinist minister, theologian and academic. Walaeus was on good terms with Hugo Grotius with the rise of theological tension between the Remonstrants and Contra-Remonstrants. This work in particular was based on courses at Middleburg school. In defending an eclectic moral philosophy that would nevertheless be acceptable to Christians, he chose the Nicomachean Ethics of Aristotle as a basis, to be corrected, despite a view that Plato was the superior moral philosopher as Aristotle was the better physicist.…

Walaeus was one of the leading Dutch orthodox Reformed theologians of the seventeenth century and a key figure of the Dutch Further Reformation. Appointed at the Synod of Dordrecht, he was one of the main translators of the New Testament and Apocrypha for the Dutch authorized States Translation (Statenvertaling). His Opera Omnia, which was posthumously published with the help of his son Johannes, is divided into two volumes. Volume I presents his biography, Enchiridion Religionis Reformatae, and the foundational Loca Communia of theology.
