Añadir al carritoOctavo softcover (VG); all our specials have minimal description to keep listing them viable. They are at least reading copies, complete and in reasonable condition, but usually secondhand; frequently they are superior examples. Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Poor. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 48 pages with a few illustrations, this is sadly a reading copy only of this work by Rye historian Leopold Amon Vidler ('The Watchman'). Some fine historical information is nicely presented in this booklet, such as 'The Hospital of St Bartholomew', 'A Forgotten Worthy', 'Coins and Tokens', and 'Mayors and Vicars'. Front cover marked and soiled, creased and worn; inside rear cover and the first page (reverse of frontispiece) marked or foxed; booklet thumb-marked at bottom corner almost throughout, and a little so at top corner; internal text pages for the most part clean though some are marked or foxed; last few pages are creased at bottom corner; final text page marked; inside rear cover creased; rear cover has same crease and is also marked and soiled. As said, a reading or reference copy only.

Añadir al carritoFacsimile reprint of the first edition, 4to. xii + 180 pp. Illustrated with frontispiece and illustrations in text. Bound in original cloth gilt, without dust wrapper. The best Rye history, reprinted with a few corrections and a new dust wrapper. This facsimile reprint did make the book common for a time, but this edition is out of print now and becoming difficult to find; its major virtue being that it is half the price of the early edition. Leopold Amon Vidler (1870-1954) was a native of Rye, Mayor from 1927-28 and founder and first curator of the Rye Museum. The history first appeared in monthly instalments in the Sussex County Magazine, 1933. KENT RYE SUSSEX TOPOGRAPHY ILLUSTRATED TOWNS- KENT.
