1st thus. The first edition of the British edition of "Venture", republished in Australia. Octavo, printed wraps, b&w illus, pp 128. Small dent to the rear edge of the spine, pages lightly toned. Very good condition. Venture Science Fiction was an American digest-size science fiction magazine, first published from 1957 to 1958, and revived for a brief run in 1969 and 1970. (A British edition appeared for 28 issues between 1963 and 1965; it reprinted material from The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction as well as from the US edition of Venture. This is the Australian version of the British edition, which was published two months later in Australia.) The magazine published some well-known writers, and SF historian Mike Ashley has suggested it was ahead of its time. This issue includes eight short stories by Isaac Asimov, Theodore L. Thomas, Avram Davidson, Charles Beaumont, Otis Kidwell Burger, Les Cole, Rose Sharon, and Joseph Dickinson; two novelettes by James White ("Counter Security") and Alfred Bester ("The Pi Man"); and featured long story by Zenna Henderson, "Return".

Octavo, stiff colour illustrated wraps, some b&w illustrations, pp 80, vi, remains of price sticker to the front cover. Generally very clean. Very good condition. "Aurealis" is Australia's longest running small-press science-fiction and fantasy magazine. It was launched in September 1990 to provide a market for speculative fiction writers, with a particular emphasis on raising the profile of Australian authors. The issue includes nine short stories, and five full-page b&w illustrations by the now acclaimed Western Australian author Shaun Tan, all signed "Tan, '91". Tan would have been 19 at the time, and these drawings would have been some of his first published work. Cover art by Tim Harris; interior art by Shaun Tan (ilustrador).
