About the book >.>.> Caravaggio e l'Europa: da Caravaggio a Mattia Preti is a significant art exhibition catalogue that showcases the artistic production inspired by the genius of Caravaggio from the late 1500s to the mid-1600s. This work is supported by the regional government of Lombardy and has been realised through the collaboration between the Municipality of Milan and the Liechtenstein Museum in Vienna. The exhibition serves to rediscover and enhance the artistic vitality of the Caravaggism movement, which, despite a brief period of brilliance, made a unique contribution to the development of subsequent artistic currents, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural and artistic landscape of Europe during that time. The artists associated with this movement were among the first to embrace an effective European dimension, skillfully combining their personal creativity with a constant reference to the extraordinary art of the great Lombard master. The choice to curate an exhibition that juxtaposes works by significant figures from this movement is commendable. It features masterpieces of considerable artistic value that remain largely unknown to the broader public. This exhibition invites attentive viewers to delve deeper into the exceptional historical narrative of both Italian and European art, showcasing contributions that have played a vital role in the evolution of artistic expressions across the continent. The catalogue not only documents the exhibition but also encourages a greater appreciation of the oft-overlooked works that exemplify the rich legacy of Caravaggism, fostering a deeper understanding of its impact on the cultural heritage of Europe.…
