Later marbled boards, original printed front wrapper mounted on the front board.Rare expanded translation of an influential work by the Scottish geologist Roderick Impey Murchison (1792-1871), with a lar…ge addition dealing with the Italian mountains and in particular the Toscane region, written by his Italian colleagues Paolo Savi (1798-1871) and Guiseppe Menegheni (1811-1889. In the rear is a large section on the fossils of the Toscane region, including the descriptions of new species of ammonites, belemnites, and foraminifers (nummulites). Uncut. Some light, scattered spotting in the text, otherwise a very good, clean copy. Ward & Carozzi, 1625 [the much shorter original, German edition].
