Añadir al carritoStapled with cord, 24 cm. Condición: Gut. Unpaginated [11 p. text], 23 p. with pasted-in ill. of womens heads wearing headscarves. Cover slightly bumped on the foot, otherwise good and very clean. - From the text by Frantisek Kretz: In 1901, my work *Slovácké cepce*, featuring Uprka's ethnographic studies, was published by the 'Unie' publishing house in Prague. It was the first comprehensive edition covering a complete range of traditional costume elements - now extinct in Slovakia - and was outstanding in its composition, form and craftsmanship. With this work, we launched a series of ethnographic publications intended to cover individual fields systematically and comprehensively. However, we brought out the publication far too early; there was as yet no appreciation of folk art, nobody bought the book, and so we abandoned further editions. Likewise, my later attempt to systematically publish all patterns of sleeve embroidery under the title 'Slovak Ornaments' was halted after the second volume. Today, both publications are sought after. It is indisputable that, when publishing ethnographic works, the artist and the ethnographer complement one another; indeed, even young artists often consult an ethnographer in their artistic work, particularly with regard to details and older artefacts. We have a wealth of ethnographic material here, though it does not extend far into the past, and it is also difficult to capture the complete, systematic development of any particular branch of folk art. We can therefore only piece together a picture of their development from what has been preserved. This has been achieved with regard to headscarves; it could also be achieved with regard to shawls, which were an inseparable companion to headscarves, and such a work can be produced. This is not merely a matter of how they were worn and tied, but also how they were decorated. The decoration of headscarves, of course, does not fall within the field of painting, but it is a valuable ethnographic source of design and a rich wellspring for embroidery, stylistic features and drawing. The headscarves from the districts of Uherský Hradi t, Uherský Ostroh and Uherský Brod feature the same rare ornamentation, composition and technique as the bonnets. The headscarf and bonnet formed a harmonious part of the traditional costume and were executed with equal artistic skill. We can say that headdresses and shawls are our oldest traditional costume components, executed with great artistry. The discontinuation of these costume elements led to a decline in the style of the traditional costume, and a process of decline set in which gradually, either in part or in full, disrupted the traditional costume. - Wikipedia: Jo a Uprka (26 October 1861, Kne dub 12 January 1940, Hroznová Lhota) was a Czech painter and graphic artist whose work combines elements of Impressionism and Art Nouveau to document the folklife of Southern Moravia. - Franti ek Kretz (18591929) was a Czech teacher, collector, ethnographer and journalist. cs Gewicht in Gramm: 250.…

Joza Uprka, also written Joza stampede (October 26, 1861 Knezdub - January 12, 1940 Grape Lhota) was a Moravian painter and graphic designer, representative of romantic historicism and Art Nouveau decorativism. His work is a document of ethnographic folklore in Southern Moravia. [Text by Dr. Alois Kolísek] [Czechoslovakia (Czech and Slovak: Ceskoslovensko, Cesko-Slovensko) was a sovereign state in Central Europe that existed from October 1918, when it declared its independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, until its peaceful dissolution into the Czech Republic and Slovakia on 1 January 1993].
