With a collection of short essays by various people, including Horace Mann, in the rear. POOR condition. Rear wrapper DETACHED but present. Leaf 63/64 MISSING resulting in text missing from that section. Wrappers missing along the spine, exposing the signatures beneath. Moderate to heavy soiling to the covers, with dampstaining and other stains present. Moderate to heavy browning to the piece. A few small superficial insect holes along the extremities of the covers and first few pages. A half inch hole in the center front cover, with some loss of text. Minor tearing along the extremities. Scattered soiling and staining in the interior.

Rear wrapper MISSING and replaced with a blank leaf, being taped to the spine with what appears to be three old name labels (these have also replaced the wrapper on the spine. General moderate toning to the front wrapper, with some soiling and staining. 1 ½ inch tear at the lower center edge. Extremities worn, with the upper right corner missing. Owner's signature on the top of the cover. Minor scattered soiling and foxing in the interior.

Hardcover. Condición: Good. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. B&W Illustrations; This book is in Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book has several smallish to medium sized chips the the spine ends and front spine joint. The corners have bumping, rubbing and fraying to the cloth. There are several spots of discoloration to the rear covers. The text pages are generally clean and bright, though there are spots of foxing and finger dirt throughout. The front and rear endpapers have a previous owner's ink stamped initials and hand inked name and address. "George Trask (1798- 1875) , a Congregational clergyman who had graduated from Bowdoin College and Andover Theological Seminary, was active in many reforms, including abolition, peace, and temperance; he also agitated with special vehemence against the use of tobacco." (The Letters of William Lloyd Garrison vol. 5).

Soft cover. Condición: Good. 1852 softcover pamphlet discussing the downside of tobacco. When I got this the cover was off. Volume has had some restoration: cover is backed with matching paper and is reattached. Paper and binding are fragile but overall readable with a gentle touch. Primary defect is the corner off the front page. Interior has foxing and stains but no vandalism. I think the author comes out of the same group that published Solomon Spittle (which I also have listed). 1852 is the first year this was published but this is titled "Fourth Thousand" so this is an early printing. Has 8 plates that are included in pagination. 179 pages, complete as issued. An uncommon item generally found in poor condition. This is decent not great (which sometimes is the best you can do). Topic is health problems of tobacco. Discusses addiction, acute toxicity, chronic health problems including heart and lung disease as well as problems of second hand smoke. Feel free to inquire.
