Udoff, Alan, 1943-, ed. Kafka's contextuality. Staten Island, NY] : [Baltimore]: Gordian Press ; Baltimore Hebrew College, 1986, stated First Printing, xliii, 393pp., good dust-jacket with light wear at top edge, very good black cloth. Kafka's fragmentary creations have suffered their own critical fragmentation as successive readings have sought to privilege one approach or perspective above all others. In an effort to restore an interpretive balance, the present volume has assembled previously unpublished essays of Kafka scholars which represent the broad spectrum of contemporary criticism and, when taken as a whole, re-present Kafka's oeuvre within its essential contexts. -- CONTENTS: Introduction: Abyssus Abyssum Invocat Alan Udoff - KAFKA IN THE CONTEXT OF LITERARY THEORY: Kafka-Critioism: A Typological Perspective in the Centenary Year James Rolleston -- The Marxian Reception of Kafka: Limits and Horizons Kenneth Hughes -- KAFKA IN THE CONTEXT OF WORLD LITERATURE: Franz Kafka's Grillparzer-Reoeption Richard Thieberger -- Kafka in the Context of Modern Literature Peter Heller -- Kafka as Holocaust Prophet: A Dissenting View Lawrence L.
