Añadir al carritoTrade Paperback. 17 pages. By the sports writer and jazz disc jockey in mid-twentieth century Southern Texas. A near fine copy in wrappers (paperback). Light toning to spine and cover edges, and slight bumps to corners. Inscribed by the author to a fellow poet: 'To Rod McKuen: who appreciates the good things in life -- best always. Jake Trussell / 10-10-57.' An early inscription, dated nearly 10-years before McKuen would begin regularly publishing his own poetry. Provenance: Acquired from the estate of the singer, songwriter, and poet Rod McKuen, who sold millions of books and albums in the 1960s and 1970s.

Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (NAP). 1000 copies of this book were published. None are numbered. The book is signed and inscribed by the author to the renowned actor Theodore Bikel of the top edge of the first page. The inscription reads 'To Theodore Bikel: One of my favorite actors! Jake Trussell.' The binding is stapled and very solid. No binding issues. The covers have a bit of tan soiling, also someone wrote on a piece of paper which was on the book, so you can make out some etched letters and numbers on the front cover (see photo). The first two pages, including the signed page, have some tan spotting off the top and middle edge (see photo). Several of the other pages have tan spotting coming off the top edge. The last four pages have a top corner crease. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And the poet's signed inscription is the only writing to be found anywhere. The poems span the years 1937 to 1955, but the majority are from the late 1930s, actually just one is from 1955 and one from 1947. There are 18 pages of poems, including the last one on the rear cover. Jake Trussell made use of many of these communication methods. Poetry was a thread throughout his adult life and gave a view into his mind. Jacob Ransom Trussell Jr. was the editor of the Kingsville-Bishop Record-News after the death of newspaper editor Ed Erard in December of 1970. Prior to that, Trussell was the managing editor of the Record for several years. He is quoted in the Foreword: 'To me, poetry was always a personal thing, written for the pure joy of writing and for no other consideration whatsoever. These poems were written at very odd moments and on the strangest assortments of materials (napkins, the backs of old football programs, and scraps of typing paper crammed into a beat up portable late at night on a kitchen table). They were written and tossed aside without ever a second thought, and none of them have been edited from their original form.'. Inscribed by Author(s).
