Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book tells the captivating story of Edward Nicholl, a man who rose from humble beginnings to become a prominent figure in the world of shipping and politics. The author takes us on a journey through Nicholl's life, starting with his childhood in Cornwall and his early days as a te…legraph messenger and apprentice engineer. We see Nicholl's determination and resilience as he navigates the challenges of his chosen profession, overcoming setbacks and pursuing opportunities with unwavering ambition. The book details his successes as a ship's engineer, his eventual rise to a position as a shipowner, and his active involvement in local politics, culminating in his election as a Member of Parliament. The book offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of shipping and engineering in late Victorian and early 20th-century Britain. We see the impact of technological advances on the industry, the social and economic conditions faced by workers, and the fierce competition among businesses. Beyond this historical context, the book explores themes of perseverance, self-reliance, and the pursuit of success against all odds. We witness the key moments that shaped Nicholl's character and drove his achievements, revealing the compelling story of a man who transformed his own destiny through sheer grit and determination.
