Being the penultimate issue of Trevor Winkfield's venerable poetry journal Juillard (1968-1972) - perhaps the finest example among several other publications he edited of the artist's career-long conversation with his peers in poetry. This issue brings together texts by Alfred Jarry, Anne Waldman, Gottfried Benn, Georg Trakl, Clark Coolidge, Raymond Roussel, Pierre Reverdy, Laura Riding, Kenward Elmslie, and others. Wraps in excellent condition especially considering their age, with only mild toning / rubbing to wraps and a modest degree of shelfwear to edges, particularly to the upper extremities of covers. First U. S. edition. Originally published in England in hardcover in 1931, using the title MURDER AT SCHOOL. Pseudonym of James Hilton, who authored such famous novels as GOOD-BYE MR. CHIPS (1934), LOST HORIZON (1933), and RANDOM HARVEST (1941). WAS IT MURDER is his only crime novel and it is a Haycraft/Queen Cornerstone. The Encyclopedia of Mystery & Detection page 199 says " Young Colin Revell is an "old boy," now a private detective, who returns to Oakington School to investigate the curious death of a student named Marshall. Everyone is relieved and satisfied when Revell confirms the theory that Marshall was killed accidentally by a falling gas pipe. When the student's older brother dies six months later by diving into an empty swimming pool, Revell returns to the school his credulity strained by another apparent suicide." A Harper sealed mystery with the seal broken but complete at the rear of the book. Covers lightly spotted, lettering bright else near fine in a dust jacket lightly sunned on the spine with light wear to the spine ends, corners and lower front cover extremities to the extremities.

Later Printing. A scarce early printing of Hilton's murder mystery, here published under his real name. Originally published under his pen-name, Glen Trevor. Near Fine in a somewhat edge chipped dustjacket.

A Poor copy of a very scarce title. First published under the pseudonym Glen Trevor by Ernest Benn in 1931. Covers buckled and lifting 9possible water damage at some pint and spine slanted. Dustjacket is badly chipped and has a circulating library label stuck to the front flap (no issue stamps on it, and no other signs of library use) One page loose (p.33). Overall a fair at ebest copy but in the very rare albeit damaged, jacket.
