Deckelillustration von Siegmund Suchodolski.- Die Münchener Tageszeitung wurde 1848 gegründet und entwickelte sich zur größten und bedeutensten Münchener Zeitung des 19. Jahrhunderts. Sie entwickelte sich von einer liberalen, regierungstreuen Zeitung in ein rechtsgerichtete, distanzierte sich aber nach dem Hitlerputsch von den Nationalsozialisten. Erst nach der Machtergreifung der Nationalsozialisten einige leitende Mitarbeiter der Zeitung verhaftet wurden, fiel das Blatt in die Hände treuer nationalkonservativer Redakteure. Die letzte Ausgabe erschien kurz vor dem kriegsende am 28.
