Rose gilt text block edges. Black endpapers. Ribbon page-marker. Extensive rubbing to the extremities. Several pages have underlining in pencil, else pages clean. Very structurally sound. According to Jacobs: "Ballif evidently considered this book to represent the true 'second edition' since the possibly 1861-62 printing was in fact simply a reprint of the 1852 first printing. This edition contains extensive revisions, chapter divisions, new versing, and footnotes having been added by James Barker and Joseph Evans. 10,000 copies printed." Jacobs 138-B. Flake/Draper 717.
