In very good dust jacket. Howard and Edna Hong were the first to translate all of Kierkegaard's work into English. The multi-volume edition of Kierkegaard's journals and papers, won a 1968 National Book Award. In 1976 donated their extensive research collection to St. Olaf and founded the namesake library. Today it has more than 11,000 volumes, 3,500 periodical articles, a partial replication of Kierkegaard's personal library and works he might have had access to. It is recognized as one of two major research facilities in the world devoted to the study of Kierkegaard. The volumes are now out of print. The front panel of the unclipped ($12.50) dust jacket, cut through, was neatly closed with archival tissue; unfortunately, previous superficial tape-marks remain. [Visible in one of my five images of the actual book.] In their Foreword, the translators quote Niels Thulstrup who called this book "one of the best substantiated and best worked out studies in the entire literature on Kierkegaard." They go on to say that "although this book is the yield of a lifetime of careful, sensitive reading of Kierkegaard's works as well as the journals and papers, Malantschuk does not tell us what Kierkegaard 'really means' but rather uses Kierkegaard to interpret Kierkegaard." As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage.
