Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a clear and comprehensive introduction to the ancient celestial globe known as the "astrolabe." The astrolabe has served as a significant astronomical tool since the Hellenistic period, having been widely used by scholars throughout the Middle Eastern Golden Age, the European Renaissance, and beyond. The author provides a detailed description of the astrolabe's construction and operation, based on a rich synthesis of medieval and classical sources. Along the way, the author explains the scientific and mathematical principles that underlie the astrolabe's remarkable functionality, as well as its symbolic importance in various cultural contexts. Through a lucid examination of the astrolabe's historical development, the book explores how this instrument shaped humanity's understanding of the cosmos. The author shows how the astrolabe facilitated advances in astronomy, astrology, navigation, and timekeeping. By contextualizing the astrolabe within the broader history of scientific inquiry, the book highlights the enduring legacy of this remarkable device. This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of science, astronomy, or the material culture of the ancient world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Hardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good, Few creases and Tears. First Edition. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Biblioteek-stempels o.a. maar verder in 'n goeie toestand ------------------ Orders over $100.00 are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.…
