Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. Cambridge-style period calf, borders and cornerpieces in blind; folio; 3 parts in 1 volume; pp. [14], 338, [7], 242, [7], 116, with title-page printed in red and black, sectional titles, decorative headpieces. Lacking only the license leaf. Rebacked; corners renewed; some faint ton…ing and foxing, but overall nice and bright. With an interesting provenance -- front paste-down bears the armorial bookplates of Alan Lubbock, and Fletcher of Saltoun (1655-1716). Andrew Fletcher was praised by Wodrow in his "History of the Sufferings of the Children of Scotland," for "his fine taste in all manner of polite learning, [and] his curious library," which is preserved at Saltoun Hall in a room built expressly for it in 1775 by his grand nephew. Fletcher also wrote "Discorso delle cose di Spagna." with the imprint "Napoli," though it was likely printed in Edinburgh. Torriano had published abbreviated versions of "Piazza Universale" in 1642 and 1649, with none of the anecdotes and extended explanations in the present volume. Wing T1928.
