Paper and plywood. Condición: A fine copy. As new. First edition. 32 pp. accordion-fold. Wooden box: 5.25 x7.5 inches; book: 5 7/8 x 2 7/8 inches. No. 1 of an edition of 10. Journeying consists of a bamboo veneered plywood (plyboo) box with a sliding draw with brass pull and paper label made to resemble a card catalogue (or miniature file cabinet) containing 32 page accordion-fold book printed by inkjet on library check-out cards (once found in back of books) with "Journal entries, sketchbook observations, haikus and drawings transcribed on library cards record a love of backpacking, collecting, discovering the natural world and making art together; " a truncated octahedron, and a separate colophon on white lined card. A collaborative project by Tony Bellaver and Mary V. Marsh (who collects and categorizes images and discarded library materials to look at reading, consuming and propaganda): "Responsive and proactive, we present a synthesis of two approaches of understanding the human environment and the natural environment. We stand apart as voyeurs, responding to what we see, and at the same time are active contributors. As a team, we put ourselves in the natural environment somewhere between viewer and participant. In our studio, Quite Contrary Press has become the expression of that experimentation, like a foundry using ideas and experience to craft words, images and objects, collaboratively and individually. Journals and diaries provide the source for projects and research. Patterns of daily activities and observations are recorded. Maps, drawings, photographs and objects collected are incorporated in a layered story of our journeys to create texture and meaning in our diary-like works. Notes and ideas are synthesized with images into prints, artist's books and assemblages." The hiking in this case took place on the John Muir Trail. Wooden box: 5.25 x7.5 inches; book: 5 7/8 x 2 7/8 inches.

Softcover. Illustrated by Tony Bellaver Ilustrador. Signed, Limited Edition. Any defects are listed in the book descriptions.; This is a lot of three small artist's books: Nature Resource, Anthropocene, and Resource Extraction. Each is comprised, inside and out, of photographs related to deforestation and clear cutting in the Pacific Northwest. Most photos are richly-toned monochrome with a few satellite photos in color. All photos are by Tony Bellaver, Oakland, CA-based photographer and book artist. Two books have no stated publisher, but all three are likely published by Quite Contrary Press, operated by artist Mary V. Marsh, collaborator with Tony Bellaver in artist's books and other artistic projects. Book 1: Bellaver, Tony. Nature Resource. (Oakland, California), (Published by the artist), 2019. Numbered edition of 10. Artist's book of terrestrial and satellite images of the wreckage and waste of forest clear-cutting in Callam County, Washington. All terrestrial images shot with a Zenza Bronica medium format camera loaded with Kodak Tri-X monochrome film. Printed accordion-fold on 1 leaf of stiff, semi-gloss card stock, with 6 panels. The front panel has the title "Nature / Resource" die cut through the stiff paper in 1/2" high serif font. The 6 panels form a single, panoramic image of "slag" piles of root balls and waste on clear-cut ground. The rear panel of the book is signed and numbered "5" of 10 in silver ink. All photographic images are printed in archival pigment inks. The book's dimensions are 8 1/2" x 8 1/2". In the publisher's slipcase of thin cardstock printed in color satellite images of clear-cut area within a forest. In silver ink, the slipcase's rear tail edge is signed and inscribed "Nature Resource, 2019 Tony Bellaver 5/10 All images taken in Callam County, WA USA". Showing only the faintest wear, the slipcase suffers from being of a card stock far too thin to maintain the 'squareness' of its edges. The spine edge is creased, and the head edge is lifting a bit where it is glued. OCLC finds only 1 in an institution. No others are currently in the trade. The book is clean, sharp, and Fine condition with the slipcase being clean and conservatively Very Good. Book 2: Bellaver, Tony. Anthropocene. (Oakland, California), (Published by the artist), 2019. Numbered edition of 10. Artist's book of terrestrial and satellite images of the wreckage and waste of forest clear-cutting in Douglas County, Oregon. All terrestrial images shot with a Zenza Bronica medium format camera loaded with Kodak Tri-X monochrome film. Printed accordion-fold on 1 leaf of stiff, semi-gloss card stock, with 6 panels. The front panel is a monochrome image of a "slag" pile on clear-count ground. The inner 4 panels form a single, color, panoramic satellite image of clear-cut areas within a forest. The title Anthropocene is die cut in 1 1/8" high serif font through the stiff paper of the 4 panels, with one syllable per panel: "An" // "thro" // "po" // "cene". The rear panel is a color, panoramic image of a forest and is signed and numbered "10" of 10 in silver ink. The book's dimensions are 7 1/4" x 7 1/4". In the publisher's slipcase of thin cardstock with the front printed in a monochrome image of a "slag" pile on clear-count ground. The rear has an identical image, reversed. Both are identical to the front panel of the book. In silver ink, the slipcase's rear tail edge is signed and inscribed "Anthropocene 2019 No. 10 Tony Bellaver". Showing only the faintest wear, the slipcase suffers from being of a card stock too thin to maintain the 'squareness' of its edges. The spine edge is creased, and the head edge is lifting where it is glued. OCLC finds 2 in institutions. No others are currently in the trade. The book is clean, sharp, and Fine condition with the slipcase being clean and conservatively Very Good.Book 3: Bellaver, Tony. Resource Extraction. Oakland, California, Quite Contrary Press, 2019. Numbered edition of 250. Exhibit catalog of Bellaver's "Resource Extraction" series of photos, likely at the Chung 24.
