Catalogue of the double exhibition of the same name by Ton Slits (1955, Netherlands) and Horst Keining (1949, Germany) at the Museum van Bommel van Dam in Venlo, spring 2010. Both artists make paintings and installations in which layered structures, lines and symbols play a role. Keining's work contains references to modern mass media (such as paintings inspired by magazine covers); the work of his Dutch colleague is more abstract and austere and demands more empathy from the viewer. Both have a respectable track record and are presented together for the first time. The book opens with two essays (in Dutch and German) by Rick Vercouteren (director of the Museum van Bommel van Dam) and Francis Feidler (director of IKOB, Eupen), followed by a substantial catalogue section with alternating full-page illustrations of recent work by both artists, without commentary or titles.
