Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Rare. Out of print. Cloth folio, Slip Case with cover photo, full- and double-page color photo illustrations "Costume Installation", is a landmark large-format artists monograph (Japanese & English) documenting the work of Tomio Mohri costume designer, exhibition and stage designer, director, and author- whose practice sits at the intersection of costume design, installation, and performance. Mohri is renowned for his exploration of the relationship between movement, space, and the body through multimedia performance and installation work. For many years he served as artistic director for Issey Miyake's exhibitions, installations, and fashion shows, developing a groundbreaking multidisciplinary approach to visual performance that fused contemporary staging with the spatial and spiritual traditions of Japanese theatre, mask, and costume design. His work with Miyake helped redefine the fashion show as a fully staged multimedia environment, reinforcing Miyake's vision of clothing as "architecture for the body." This oversized volume, designed as a substantial art object in its own right, beautifully documents Mohri's costume "installations" through the cinematic photography of Kazumi Kurigami, with art direction by Masatoshi Toda. The unpaginated, image-driven layout reads more like an exhibition catalogue or photobook than a conventional monograph. Costumes are presented as sculptural environments- staged tableaux that emphasize silhouette, volume, and the tension between body and space rather than simple fashion reportage. Repetition, sequencing, and shifts in lighting and backdrop underscore Mohri's interest in theatricality and spatial perception. The book can be read as a continuation of the performative and spatial strategies Mohri developed in his Miyake collaborations, extended here into his independent practice. It sits within the fertile late-1980s and early-1990s Japanese visual culture moment in which clothing was treated as performance, object, and architecture. Held in institutional special collections and used pedagogically in apparel, sculpture, and performance courses, it remains an important reference work for practitioners and scholars interested in the intersection of body, space, and costume.…
