, Softcover/Paperback. Condición: Gut. Auflage: First Edition. 40 S. Fresh and clean copy in good condition. Frisches und sauberes Exemplar in gutem Zustand. "Since the inception of photography, in the early nineteenth century, architecture has been a primary subject for photographers. One inherent ideological problem in this lo…ng-standing relationship is the definition of whether architectural photography should be defined as Art or as simply a commercial endeavor. In his 1963 book Architecture & Photography, by photographer Eric de Maré, he addressed this fine line and established two distinct photographic categories: as the Picture and the Illustration. The Picture is the architectonic design which is not concerned at all with the record but attempts to create a work of visual art in its own right. The subject may, or may not, have architectural value in itself; it is the picture which matters. The Illustration presents the building in as attractive and revealing a way as possible so that we say in the same breath, what a splendid photograph and what a beautiful building! To the professional architectural photographer, that is his living. De Maré created a typological framework for indexing an array of works, from Margaret Bourke-Whites as Picture in style to Julius Shulmans as Illustration. The past commercial endeavors of architectural photographers such as Shulman have, in recent years, been elevated to the realm of art by scholars, auction houses and art collectors (as cultural artifacts that showcased the mid-century modern aesthetic in Southern California architecture and the intended life style that went along with it), while his vast body of work is still, categorically, Illustration in style. Although many noted photographers have explored blurring these categorical frameworks, de Marés typologies are still a viable methodology for defining photography that portrays architecture as its primary subject matter. Judith Turners cropped perspectival photographic views of buildings operated in the realm of Illustration style. Turners photographic series taken in the late 1970s of buildings by the New York Five (Peter D. Eisenman, Charles Gwathmey, John Hejduk, Michael Graves, and Richard Meier). " - Meta-Narrative in the Architectural Photography of Todd Eberle by Joseph Rosa ISBN 9780977497706 Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 450.

Hardcover. Condición: Fine. 1st Edition. Hardcover book with dust jacket and mar covering in FINE condition. Actual book is pictured. See images provided. First edition. Inscribed by Todd Eberle to Jeff Koons: "For Jeff who helped in so many ways to make Empire of Space" 6/22/11. Tight binding. All pages clean wothout any markin…gs, notations, or folds. Synopsis Contrasting ultramodernist photographs taken over a thirty-year period constitute the first book by one of the most celebrated photographers working today. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1963, and first coming into prominence in the early 1990s with his iconic photographs of Donald Judd's works and architecture, Todd Eberle's photographs document the disparate images that make up American architecture, landscapes, and society and are united by a minimalist aesthetic that runs through his work. Whether his approach to a particular subject is earnest (an unfurling flag) or kitsch (the Vegas strip), Eberle brings to his photographs a heightened sense of precision, symmetry, and proportion. The Empire of Space is a lavish look at Eberle's career and features many rare and never-before-published portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and interiors. In the spirit of Walker Evans, Eberle creates an enduring and poetic portrait of America, the arts, and architecture through thoughtfully contrasting and analogous photographs. This exciting and definitive book on Eberle's illustrious legacy is sure to rank among the most important publications to mix modernism, minimalism, and photography. About the Author Todd Eberle is a professional photographer and artist based in New York City. He is currently the photographer-at-large for Vanity Fair and regularly contributes to the New York Times Style Magazine, Interview, and the Wall Street Journal Magazine, among others. Glenn O'Brien, in addition to writing the column The Style Guy for GQ, was the editor of Andy Warhol's Interview and the New York bureau chief of Rolling Stone. He produced and starred in Glenn O'Brien's TV Party and wrote and produced the film Downtown 81, starring Jean-Michel Basquiat. "About this title" may belong to another edition of this title.
