Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Based on interviews with Wilfred Burchett and Anthony Purdy. 8vo. 212p. Fronitspiece black and white photo of Gherman Titov plus 18 other black and white captioned photos. Appendix I, which comprises a kind of glossary of terms related to Soviet space exploration and Appendix II, which comprises a kind of "afterword" by Martiin Caidin. Blue cloth with silver letters on the front cover and the spine. No noticeable wear to extremities, cloth clean and bright, silver bright (!), else fine with no internal markings. Dust jacket ever so slightly shelfworn, but near fine and not price-clipped. Gherman Stephanovich Titov was a Soviet cosmonaut who, on 6 August 1961, became the second human to orbit the Earth, aboard Vostok 2, preceded by Yuri Gagarin on Vostok 1. He was the fourth person in space, counting suborbital voyages of US astronauts Alan Shepard and Gus Grissom. "I Am Eagle!" is the story of Gherman Titov, of his journey, of his life, his family and the many things that related to this telling. His story was researched within the Soviet Union by Wilfred Burchett and Anthony Purdy. It is the first inside, behind-the-scenes, intimate and authentic look within the Russian-mounted space program. From beginning to end this is the story that has never been told before. Each source and statement has been carefully checked by top engineers in the United States' own missile and space field. Martin Caidin was the nations' most outstanding and prolific writer in the field of flight and astronautics having written more than thirty-two books in the field. [all from the dust jacket].…

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Near Fine. First. From Wikipedia: Gherman Stepanovich Titov (1935 - 2000) was a Soviet and Russian cosmonaut who, on 6 August 1961, became the second human to orbit the Earth, aboard Vostok 2, preceded by Yuri Gagarin on Vostok 1. He was the fourth person in space, counting suborbital voyages of US astronauts Alan Shepard and Gus Grissom. A month short of 26 years old at launch, he is the youngest professional astronaut and was the youngest person to fly in space until 2021 when Oliver Daemen flew on Blue Origin NS-16 at the age of 18. Since Daemen flew a suborbital mission, Titov remains the youngest person to fly in Earth orbit. Titov's flight finally proved that humans could live and work in space. He was the first person to orbit the Earth multiple times (a total of 17), the first to pilot a spaceship and to spend more than a day in space. He was also the first to sleep in orbit and to suffer from space sickness (becoming the first person to vomit in space).[3] Titov was the first human photographer in space: he made the first manual photographs from orbit, thus setting a record for modern first photos of Earth from space by a human (the first picture of the planet from space was shot by a V-2 rocket in 1946, launched from New Mexico). He also was the first person to film the Earth using a professional quality Konvas-Avtomat movie camera, which he used for ten minutes. In his subsequent life Titov continued to work for the Soviet space program, and played a major role in the Spiral project where he trained to become the first pilot of an orbital spaceplane. However, after the death of Yuri Gagarin in a military aircraft accident in 1968, the Soviet government decided it could not afford to lose its second cosmonaut, and so Titov's career as test pilot ended. This copy is near fine in color photo-illustrated boards, with white titles on the spine and front cover. No DJ as issued. In Russian. This is a later work that expands on Titov's experiences and thoughts about space and Earth. Slight bumping at the corners and spine ends, but no other marks or damage. Inscribed by Titov (in Russian) on the title page. A quite uncommon work, especially signed. PB20. Signed.…

Añadir al carritoRare Soviet postcard featuring a colorized portrait of Yuri Gagarin to the right and Gherman Titov to the left wearing their military uniforms without caps while looking at a newspaper. Boldly signed by cosmonauts Gagarin and Titov beside their respective images. Additionally inscribed by Gagarin in Cyrillic along the upper margin, translated it reads, "To Nikolai Petrovich with big gratitude." The recipient, Nikolai Petrovich Kamanin (1908-1982), was a Soviet Air Force general and a programme manager in the Soviet space programme, 1960-1971. He retired after a fatal accident with the Soyuz 11 mission, where the crew was killed by decompression on their landing run. In fine condition. On an aperture mount with name title plaques for the two cosmonauts and a printed biographical note about the message and recipient centered below. The postcard was issued 16 September 1961. The entire piece measures 8 inches by 10 inches. Yuri Gagarin (1934â"1968) was a Soviet cosmonaut whose flight aboard Vostok 1 on 12 April 1961 marked the first time a human entered orbital space, completing one orbit of Earth in a mission lasting 108 minutes. The achievement carried significance beyond engineering, functioning as a highly visible demonstration of Soviet technological capacity during the Cold War and helping to define spaceflight as a domain of ideological competition as well as scientific ambition. Notably, Vostok 1âs descent was largely automated, and Gagarin landed by parachute after ejecting from the capsule, underscoring both the experimental character and calculated risk of early human spaceflight. In the years that followed, Gagarin became an international symbol of Soviet modernity, although his career was cut short when he died in a MiG-15UTI training crash on 27 March 1968.…

Añadir al carritoAn original photographic black and white shot of six Russian astronauts - including Gherman Titov and Yuri and Gagarin - below this, both Gagarin and Titov have signed their names. Measures 30cm x 30cms. Now framed and mounted. Rare Yuri Gagarin and Gherman Titov were pioneering Soviet cosmonauts who marked early milestones in human space flight. Gagarin became the first human in space on 12 April 1961 aboard Vostok 1, completing an orbit of Earth and instantly becoming an international icon and hero of the Soviet Union. Titov followed as the second human to orbit Earth on Vostok 2 in August 1961, spending more than a day in space and becoming the youngest person to fly in orbit. Their flights demonstrated the feasibility of human space travel and intensified the Space Race between superpowers at the time of the era.…
