Ashley Tinson served with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in Germany, Kenya, Aden, Cyprus and Malaya, and on loan to the Aden Protectorate Levies, US Armed Forces, and Sultan's Armed Forces. While in Oman, he rescued from destruction a set of historical documents concerning acts of bravery, and prepared this book with the approval of Sultan Qaboos, whose portrait appears to the frontispiece, in the full dress uniform of a Field Marshall. This second edition brings the book up to date from 1977, when the three services had just become autonomous, to 1985, the 15th year of Sultan Qaboos' reign.
