12mo, pp [12], xxxiv, 224, [6], frontispiece and 12 engraved plates, some with multiple images, the last plate folding, bound in contemporary sheep, spine gilt ruled with black label, joints cracked but holding well, spine ends chipped, internally clean and tight, a good copy for an early school publication, FIFTH EDITION, this small work based upon Spense's rather grander folio Polymetis was prepared, unillustrated, for the use of 'Academies and Schools' in 1764, in ordre to introducing the aesethics of clasical poetry, scultpure and painting to a youthful audience, some whom might be luckky enough to be sent on the'Grand Tour'. For its third printing of 1768 this set of thirteen plates was added.
