Vintage publicity photograph of director Tim Burton from the 1989 film. Richard Donner directed the highly successful superhero film "Superman" (starring Christopher Reeves) in 1978, but it was Burton's dark and semiserious anti-hero take on the DC Comic character "Batman" that would be repeatedly emulated over the next three decades, and is largely responsible for the modern day superhero film genre. "Batman" spawned three direct sequels "Batman Returns" (1989), "Batman Forever" (1995), and "Batman and Robin" (1997). Joel Schumacher took over directing the franchise after "Batman Returns," and replaced Michael Keaton's Batman with Val Kilmer and George Clooney, respectively. Director Christopher Nolan would resurrect the franchise in the highly successful "Dark Knight Trilogy" ("Batman Begins" [2005], "The Dark Knight" [2008], and "The Dark Knight Rises" [2012]) with Christian Bale in the lead. Several more films have since been spawned from the DC Comic's character universe as well as another pending re-invention ("The Batman") to be directed by Matt Reeves, with Robert Pattinson in the lead, for 2022. Winner of an Academy Award. Set in Gotham City, shot on location in Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and London. 8 x 10 inches. Near Fine.…

Revised First Draft script for the 1990 film. Tim Burton's second "Modern Prometheus" film, following his 1984 short "Frankenweenie," about a mad scientist who dies before he can complete his latest creation: a nearly complete human being. The creation is left with scissors for hands, and doomed to live a life of solitude until a kindly, mild-mannered Avon lady welcomes him into her home. Often cited as the director's masterpiece, released two years after his hilarious and creepy romp "Beetlejuice" (1988), one year after his beloved comic adaptation "Batman" (1989), and two years before his second (and final) contribution to the Dark Knight legend, "Batman Returns" (1992). Mustard titled Twentieth Century-Fox wrappers, undated. Title page present, dated February 22, 1990, noted as REVISED FIRST DRAFT, with credit for screenwriter Caroline Thompson. 121 leaves, with last page of text numbered 116. Xerographic duplication on blue stock, rectos only, with rainbow revision pages throughout, dated between 4/27/90 and 6/27/90. Pages about Fine, wrapper Near Fine, bound with two gold brads.…
