First edition. Softcover. 12 pages. Catalog 182 from this gallery. Includes an artist chronology, a checklist of the 57 works in the show, a number of which are illustrated in black and white. An about very good copy in stapled wrappers from the Cranbrook Academy of Art Library with their stamp to the front panel. Otherwise a very nice copy of an uncommon catalog.

A retrospective exhibition of the British Pop artist. OVERSIZE! No priority/air, except by special arrangement. "Originally associated with the British Pop Art movement in the early 1960s, Joe Tilson has achieved international acclaim over the last forty years for the individuality and originality of his paintings, constructions, painted reliefs, prints and multiples, whose sources are drawn from literature, philosophy, ethnography and alchemy. Born in London in 1928, Tilson worked as a carpenter and joiner. After National Service in the RAF, he studied at St. Martin's School of Art and the Royal College of Art. He won the Rome Prize in 1955, and since then has spent much of his time in Italy. He has taught at important art schools in London, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, New York and Hamburg, and is a popular exhibitor at the Royal Academy's annual Summer Exhibition. This catalogue, illustrated in colour throughout and containing an essay by Mel Gooding, is published to accompany a major retrospective of Tilson's work at the Royal Academy of Arts." - Publisher. Stiff wraps, slightly rubbed, pp. 32, illustrations, including colour. 'Joe Tilson has been making and exhibiting his constructions, drawings, prints and multiples for twenty-six years. As part of two major exhibitions in South Africa he has made a limited original print of an etching entitled 'Oak mantra'. Among the media in which he works he is acknowledged to be one of the foremost printmakers in England, and to mark the exhibitions and the publishing of Oak Mantra it was decided to document the different stages in the making of the print. The project was conceived and executed within the space of ten weeks. The catalogue has been broken into three sections interspersed with an interview Joe Tilson gave to Dan Cornwall-Jones in November 1981.'.
